Frost Heave Fondo

*** 2021 Date and registration coming soon ***

The Midcoast Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association is partnering with OCMV to host the 2nd annual Frost Heave Fondo

** Only 150 bikers can ride **

Details: Spring in Maine often means snow-covered roads, frost heaves, mud, or some devilish combination of all three. Any given Sunday could well bring bluebird weather or a wicked nor’easter. What better way to get off the couch than to join 150 of your soon-to-be friends for a 31-mile riding adventure on quiet roads through beautiful countryside?

We have set up a challenging course where you can test your early-season fitness, or if your legs are feeling a bit sluggish from winter, you can shortcut the course or even turn around at any point. The adventure will happen whatever the weather, and we encourage everyone to dress as needed.

The Frost Heave Fondo course will take you over a variety of roads – smooth pavement, rough tarmac, rutted dirt with muddy and/or icy spots, etc.– so whatever bike you choose could be the wrong bike at certain times. Bring whatever bike you’re comfortable on (we expect most folks to be riding knobby-tired gravel bikes or mountain bikes) and have a blast. Remember, this is not a race and the goal is to have fun and raise money for OCMV and the Midcoast Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association.

What: 31-mile adventurous road ride (not a race), with rolling start, everyone leaves at the same time. Limited to 150 riders.

Where:  Meeting at Threshers Brewing, 22 Main St., Searsmont, and heading out from Searsmont through Appleton, Union and returning to Threshers in Searsmont.

When: TBD; rain, snow, sleet, or shine. No refunds- bring your sense of adventure and be prepared for frost heaves.

How Much: $25 for adults, under 18 FREE. (Must pre-register at Eventbrite)
